More than an acre of property on Norwalk’s Bett’s Island went on the market last week, asking $1.4 million for a secluded spot just off the coast of Calf Pasture Beach.

The property, which includes an 1,100 square foot cottage, on the westerly shore of the island, and offers tons of privacy, according to listing agent Piper Garner of William Raveis.

“If you look at a picture of the island, it’s shaped like an hourglass, and at high tide, the two parts aren’t connected,” she said. The portion of the island for sale — about 1.5 acres — is the entire western portion of the island, separated from the neighbor’s property by the sea at high tide and a sand bar at low tide.

“It’s facing Manhattan, and you can see the skyline and a magnificent sunset,” said Garner, who added that it’s the perfect spot to watch fireworks from all of the area towns.

The cottage uses solar energy for power, and while there is “the opportunity to hook up to septic,” Garner said the current owners are using a “a camping style situation right now,” a move that makes sense for the purpose Garner sees the property serving to prospective buyers.

“I think this property is perfect for someone who is local and has kids, and they love the water and love boating, and is just going to flip out about having the opportunity to have their own little vacation spot around the corner,” she said. “You don’t have to drive to the Hamptons or the Vineyard of Nantucket to have paradise.”
